Created by Matsang in connection with Spheres of Conspiracy, Conspiracies is a series of films and sound design pieces which draws on Freespace, the principles of maximalism and existing narratives related to the notion of “conspiracy” to build new ones.
In July 2017, the Matsang held and recorded conversations with friends on the notion of conspiracy as it relates to the African context. Drawing on these sessions, as well as collected radio excerpts, live instrumentation and sound design, they produced the following compilation, which attempts to provide a scope of the ideas and impressions driving the project.
Brought to you as a joint effort between This Thing Is Plural and People’s Education, this video mixtape (mixed and compiled by Malik Ntone Edjabe) forms part as part of a larger project exploring popular/urban musical modes from around the continent – Music Education in the Contemporary African Context.
